WHAT IS THE BOOK ARTS JAM?

The Book Arts Jam is a one-day celebration of the book, print & paper arts, held in the Bay Area of Northern California.

Book Arts Jam 2012 will feature:

• Artists' talks featuring a behind-the-scenes look at the creative processes, tools and techniques used by book artists; this year we are very pleased to have the following speakers (please click here for speaker bios):

  	12:00 - 12:30	Maia de Raat Letterpress Printed Imagery: Transforming the Traditional
  	12:30 - 1:00	Darius B'Alexander Controlled Wrinkles: Paper Engineering & Origami Art
  	1:00 - 2:00	Mary Risala Laird Fine Binding & Letterpress
  	2:00 - 2:45	Nanette Wylde Getting Somewhere: Idea Development & the Artist's Book

• Exhibition of artists' books by Bay Area Book Artists
• Make-and-Take projects for children and adults
• A continuous slideshow featuring the work of Bay Area Book Artists
• Book artists and craftspeople with work for sale and exhibition
• A continuous letterpress demonstration by the San Jose Printer's Guild

  The Book Arts Jam is coordinated by members of the Bay Area Book Artists (BABA). BABA is a grassroots, volunteer-powered book arts organization. Founder Jone Small Manoogian describes BABA as "a warm and friendly, loosely-organized group of artists, who support one another in all aspects of creating books." Members meet once a month to share information about upcoming exhibitions, demonstrate new skills, problem-solve works in progress, trade materials, and enjoy the company of others who are passionate about book arts. We also have monthly workshop sessions.
